This is a good read, if anyone's interested. It's about the Christian political organization known as The Family, and Christ, are they insane.

Interestingly enough, Mark Sanford and John Ensign are both members.

Something like that. Truth be told, I wouldn't be surprised if Carter turned out to be a member, too.

Quite pleasant, with a slight chance of liberal bias, apparently.

Actually, they're more interested in power than religion. They're a weird group.

Not so weird, honey. I'm hoping I won't get crucified saying this (again, pun not intended), but most of the real big higher-ups in any religious organization aren't in it for the love and inner serenity.

I don't think it's fair to make a generalization like that. Corrupt church officials get a lot of press, but there are so many who who genuinely do good work and don't get nearly the same amount of attention.

[info]fishnets

That's why I said higher-ups, sweetheart. I don't think religion was ever supposed to go so hand-in-hand with money and bureacracy, you know?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]meltingwax
2009-08-25 05:50 pm UTC (link)
That's very cynical of you. For a lot of people on that level, it's not about money and bureaucracy. It's about reaching out to as many people as they can.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]fishnets
2009-08-25 06:00 pm UTC (link)
It probably is, yeah, but you have to admit that those bigwigs -- which is who I mean, the ones in the press -- seem to be just as political as the, well, politicians. I'm not saying there aren't people who want to reach out to as many as possible, but as far as getting face time in the news goes, it's not the norm. But that's kind of the way of everything, you know? Everyone loves a scandal, etc.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]meltingwax

And most religious higher-ups aren't like the people you hear about in the press.

[info]fishnets

Yep. Most of 'em haven't been too happy to see me, but I think a fair few of the non-bigwigs are fine people. I don't know what your experience is, darl, but mine is apparently not so positive. It's no big deal.

[info]meltingwax

I don't see how being less than thrilled to see you automatically makes them corrupt, but if you think it's no big deal, then that's fine.
